Most documents filed by Limited Companies since 1994 are scanned and made available online. This means that you have access to annual accounts for companies who you are about to do business with to be able to see their published figures.

Incorporation documents are available to see the original shareholders and directors and its easy to spot whether there has been much activity in director changes simply by viewing how many director appointment forms have been made.

Note that Companies House do not report shareholder details on a Person search. To identify shareholders, you would need to request an annual return document scan using the Company Search option. Annual returns since October 2008 and new companies since October 2009 will no longer show addresses of shareholders (due to the new Companies Act 2006).
