You need an official address for the company - this is called the Registered Office address. This doesn't have to be where you trade, it has to be the place where Companies House and other people (i.e. Revenue and Customs) can contact your company and be sure that it is getting to the company. Quite often this is either your home address or your accountants address (or your trading address if you have one). If you rent your home address, you should confirm that it is ok to have the registered office address at your home address. Registered Offices can be changed, free of charge at any time but you have to be able to accept post at the old location for a further 14 days after the change. It has to be a physical address (not a PO Box address) but can be a mail forwarding company, for companies whose officers are based overseas.
Registered Office addresses are publicly visible addresses and should any customer have an issue with your company they are just as likely to contact the registered office address if they have no other means to contact you. By delivering a recorded delivery letter to a registered office address, your company is deemed to have received the letter.
Registered Office addresses legally have to be shown on all letterheads, invoices, website etc.
