On 1st October (or 5th Oct in reality) 2009, the 2006 Companies Act came into force in full and the old 1985 has been relegated to history.
21 years is a long time between Acts, although there have been revisions in 1989 and the 2006 Act has slowly been phased in with small additions in April and October for the last year or so
In addition to several hundred form changes, the way company formation agents send messages to Companies House has now also changed. Bring these two items together and throw in a slice of government and there is a recipe but its not for pea soup...

You need to know the name of the company you want to form. You may think you can pick whichever name you want but there are some restrictions. Firstly, if someone else has already registered it, you cannot register it again.

When carrying out new company formations, officers (directors, secretaries and shareholders) can be people or companies. If your accountant is providing company secretarial services for your new company, its likely not to be the person themselves, but the actual accountancy practice who is the company secretary. This is called a Corporate Officer.

You need an official address for the company - this is called the Registered Office address. This doesn't have to be where you trade, it has to be the place where Companies House and other people (i.e. Revenue and Customs) can contact your company and be sure that it is getting to the company. Quite often this is either your home address or your accountants address (or your trading address if you have one).
